Abstract

In the first quarter of 2013, shipment volume of Taiwanese contract manufacturers is estimated at 48.63 million units, up 6.4% year-on-year but down 21.6% sequentially. The sequential decline is mainly due to the reduced shipment of the Apple iPhone 5 and the lack of new models from Sony and Nokia. Nevertheless, the reduced prices of the Apple iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S has bolstered Apple's sales volume in the first quarter. Therefore, Apple's iPhone shipment volume has enjoyed higher year-on-year growth in the first quarter of 2013, thereby leading to a modest increase in total shipment of contract manufacturers.
